Healthy Chocolate Questions
Xocai Q & A
A
Healthy Chocolate, isn’t that a contradiction in terms?
Not really. For thousands of years pure raw cacao, or cocoa powder,
has been recognised as one of the healthiest food sources on the
planet. It is a very complex food made up of over 300 recognisable
ingredients including highly potent antioxidants such as Flavanols
and a very important compound called epicatechin. The Ancient Aztecs
used it both for medicinal purposes and as a high powered energy
drink and in recent years, science has rediscovered it as a
nutritious super-food.
How come then, that the chocolate that we know and love today, is so
bad for us?
Because of the production process and all the unhealthy ingredients
that are added to it. Around 300 years ago Europeans started adding
sugar and milk to the raw cacao to make it more palatable to a wider
audience and heating it all together was an important part of the production.
Main brand confectioners today add even more artificial ingredients
such as waxes and fillers and they
swap the good fats found
naturally in cacao (Cocoa butter) with bad fats! On top of this, the
heating process involved
in its production eradicates over
70% of the highly potent
nutrients abundant in the raw cacao plant.
What is it that makes Xocai chocolate so different and healthy?
Xocai is a proprietary formulation of raw unprocessed cacao, mixed
with Acai berries and Blueberries – three of the most antioxidant
rich food sources known to man. They add no fillers, waxes, refined
sugars, bad fats or caffeine and it is also gluten-free, non dairy
and low glycemic. But the most significant breakthrough between
Xocai and any other chocolate, is brought about by a unique and
patented Cold Pressed
production process – no heat is used in the making of its chocolate!
This really is ground breaking because it means that the majority of
the incredible antioxidant properties found in its raw ingredients
are still present in the finished chocolate.
Does this mean it doesn’t taste very nice?
It is true that in the past, attempts at so called
healthier chocolates have
compromised quite a bit on the taste – but this is
not the case with Xocai.
It is made in Belgium and
tastes delicious, just like the finest quality dark Belgian
chocolate that you might find in any specialist chocolate shop. You
certainly won’t tell from the taste, that one piece of Xocai
chocolate is providing a third of your recommended daily intake of Antioxidants in one
mouthful!
How can I get hold of some?
Xocai chocolate is not available in the shops but exclusively
through a network of independent distributors. Most of our business
comes via personal recommendation from people who eat the chocolate
themselves.
Why are Antioxidants important to us?
Oxidisation affects our bodies in the same way in which an old car
can rust away. In our body it has the effect of creating unbalanced
cells or Free Radicals and it is this process which is a major cause of aging
and degenerative diseases. Antioxidants in our body ‘latch on’ to
these Free Radicals and cancel them out. Our body does produce its
own Antioxidants but not enough to cope with our modern lives. The
nutrition that we get from our diets is a fraction of those of 50
years ago and the pollution that our body is exposed to, the
reverse. We have to supplement the shortfall to make our bodies
function as they should.
What happens if we don’t get enough Antioxidants in our diet?
More and more, medical research seems to agree on the importance of
maintaining a certain level of Antioxidants in our body. Scientists
have linked aging and over 200 degenerative diseases to inflammation
and oxidation. Dr. Richard Cutler, whilst Director of the Anti-Aging
Research Department in Washington, USA
went as far to say, “The
amount of antioxidants that you maintain in your body is directly
proportional to how long and healthy you will live”.
Can’t I just get all the Antioxidants that I need by eating fruit
and vegetables?
Yes of course you can but you may have to eat a bit more than you
imagine. Nutritionists recommend an intake of 10,000 units of
Antioxidants a day, which you will get from eating as little as
three pieces of Xocai
chocolate. You would have to eat either 1.4 kg of black grapes, 1.1
kg of spinach, 1.1 kg of broccoli or 1 kg of brussel sprouts, to get
the equivalent levels from fruit and veg. Which would you rather
eat?
Of course you should still eat your 5-a-Day of fruit and vegetables,
because they have some other nutrients and vitamins that healthy
chocolate doesn’t, but at least you know that your antioxidants are
covered.
Will I actually notice any difference from eating Healthy Chocolate?
Yes you most definitely should do and the benefits will vary from
person to person. This is because increasing your body’s
antioxidants levels serves to strengthen and support
all of the body functions. Some health benefits reported and
supported by medical research into raw cacao and quality dark
chocolate include; healthier cardiovascular function, lower blood
pressure, lower cholesterol levels, reduced insulin dependency,
improved respiratory function, better joint flexibility, better
dental health, suppressing of cravings and supporting weight loss.
